CELLBIOPRINT (Printing and characterization of biocompatible scaffolds) proposes a new methodology for the characterization of three-dimensional polymer networks combining image analysis for 3D reconstruction of the microstructure, with micro manipulation techniques with tweezers and magnetic nanoparticles.
Magnetic tweezers (MT) generate forces and momentum on molecules/particles or groups of them, and can be used to measure the tensile strength or the force generated by the particles, or to obtain the movements of these particles as a function of the applied forces. For biomedical studies, it is common to use spherical particles with a diameter in the range of microns or tens of nanometers in which magnetic nanoparticles are embedded.
