SID

Distributed Information Systems

The research group SID (which stands, in Spanish, for Distributed Information Systems) was founded in 1999. It is recognized and funded as research group by the Aragón Government since 2009 and belongs to the Aragón Institute for Engineering Research (I3A) (which stands for Instituto Universitario de Investigación en Ingeniería de Aragón). Its members are professors and PhD students from the University of Zaragoza, including other members with different affiliations. The research work focuses on the area of distributed information systems, with experience in different fields such as distributed databases, Web systems, knowledge representation, ontologies, reasoners based on Description Logics, Semantic Web services, mobile computing, and mobile agents, among others.

The global objective of our group is to facilitate the interoperability between distributed, open, and dynamic information systems, with special emphasis on the development of data services for end users in wireless environments, and the use of semantic techniques to retrieve the data that the user wants to obtain.

Therefore, the results of our research, almost always aimed at end users, will have a direct application in our region promoting technological innovation and helping to evolve towards a more accessible and connected society, where citizens and different organizations and institutions, by using the technology developed in our research group, can access to the information they need in a fast, safe, and easy way.
