Multilayer optical coatings

The active sub-lines are:

Coatings for optical and energy control applied to architecture and transport

The objective of this sub-line is the design of multilayer structures for thermal insulation, control of optical transmission properties and RF bands, light, signalling, functional and heated glass, etc.

It is worth highlighting in this line the group's long-standing collaboration with the company Ariño Duglass S.A., which gives meaning to this sub-line and where work is being done to help improve the coatings and processes carried out by the company and to research new advanced techniques to support its competitiveness. This sub-line also studies frequency selective surfaces for glasses: development of glasses with RF transmission control in bands of interest (3G, 4G, 5G) by means of thin-film frequency selective surfaces.

Industrial applications of the PVD technique

The GTF group is active in collaboration with different companies in applications of multilayer structures for household appliances, automotive, position sensors in machine tools, selective coatings for energy recovery in blast furnaces, etc. In addition, work has been done in the past on the design of coatings for the solar thermal industry, producing high-efficiency coatings for low-cost reflectors and solar concentration tubes.
