Architectural Theory and Culture

In this line, research in architecture is undertaken from the social and cultural sphere, in order to combine scientific and technological advances with humanistic aspects, thus generating an integrated and transversal progress of society. The theoretical analysis of the changes that Spanish architectural culture, and especially that of Aragonese, has suffered from the sixties of the 20th century and its repercussions today is one of the main work objectives. Within this line, studies are undertaken on the historiography of Spanish architecture and its parallels and differences with the evolution of architectural theory and culture in other European countries, with special emphasis on Nordic culture. A fundamental social and cultural change in this context is the incorporation of women into the liberal profession of architecture, an issue that inevitably leads us to introduce the gender perspective in this line of work. Likewise, a second objective is to rescue all those currents that proposed new urban typologies, methods of improving living conditions or visionary proposals in bio-architecture, sustainability and relationship with the environment. All of them are aspects that the advances currently under development place again at the forefront of research, and that would benefit, however, from a more global vision of its historical past, especially in the second half of the 20th century. For all this, it is of special interest to analyze the way in which the media, visual and written, have offered historical constructions and projections of the future of our architectural culture, both with regard to the environment and the built and urban as well as to the exploration of new technologies. Within this line, it is considered essential to carry out scientific activities that promote the dissemination of architectural culture and bring our building and urban heritage closer to society, especially in collaboration with cultural institutions of our community, such as the College of Architects of Aragón and the work social of Ibercaja. Likewise, participation and collaboration with other research institutions both nationally and internationally is considered essential. In this case, relationships have been forging with institutions linked to Finland and the United States for some time.
