Conferencia Alice (Quiyao) Peng: Cell-based modelling for wound healing and cancer cell metastasis (lunes 8 de junio, 12h.)

Abstract: In this talk, I will give an overview of the part of my research that is related to biological applications, particularly wound healing and cancer cell metastasis. Cell-based modelling is widely used in mathematical biology for microscale, which treats every single cell as an individual so that the cellular activities and position of each cell can be tracked precisely. The talk consists of three sub-themes: (1) modelling wound closure with DLCM framework; (2) modelling wound contractions with centre-based model and (3) model cancer cell metastasis with vertext-based model. All these work has revealed the underneath biomechanics to some extent and the model has been validated either quantitatively or qualitatively. Last but not least, I will also briefly mention some ongoing analytical work, regarding model comparison for cellular forces and compounds diffusion.

Mini CV: Alice Peng is currently an assistant professor in School of Mathematical Sciences at Lancaster University since January 2025. She did her PhD at Delft University of Technology and then continued as a postdoc at Leiden University in the Netherlands. Her research mainly focuses on mathematical biology with main applications in wound healing and cancer cell metastasis. Furthremore, she is also interested in model approximation and comparison, which is important in accelerating "walking from bench to bed" and improving computational efficiency and numerical accuracy.
