The PhD programme in Chemical and Materials Sciences aims at training creative and competent scientists in the fields of Chemistry and Materials Science, through the development of a solid theoretical background and original research skills. Original research, performed under the direction of an academic supervisor, plays a pivotal role in this programme. Cross-disciplinary collaborations and industrial partnerships are key features of this doctoral programme, with a focus on bridging the gap between academia and industry. Students are admitted directly after Master degree. The duration of the programme is 3 years, and admission is on a competitive basis. The programme is entirely in English.
The project UNITA aims to promote strong links and commonalities to create a groundbreaking and innovative alliance aiming at a closer integration among Universidade de Beira Interior, Universidad de Zaragoza, Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour, Université Savoie Mont Blanc, Università di Torino, and Universitatea de Vest din Timisoara. The subtitle Universitas Montium, written in Latin, stresses that UNITA universities all speak Romance languages and are committed to fostering linguistic diversity and to the development of rural and cross-border mountain areas.
The PhD position is aimed to investigate suitable solutions for the production and storage of renewables for energy communities in mountain areas. Being intermittent, renewable energy sources and uses are often misaligned and suitable storage technologies are necessary. The project will span on the study of photovoltaics, batteries and of hydrogen as an energy carrier. Other topics are welcome. Links with industries are planned. Social aspects related to the development of energy communities will be a part of the activities.
