Hydrogen and fuel cell technologies have a wide range of uses and are extensively commercialised. However, their use may include the risk of accidents, making the appropriate training of responders indispensable. Responders must be informed, adequately trained and prepared for efficient accident management and recovery. The EU-funded HyResponder project will aim to ensure the safe commercialisation and use of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies. To achieve this goal, it will develop an inclusive programme comprising operational, virtual reality and educational training based on the more advanced knowledge in hydrogen safety. A Europe-wide network of responder trainers will be established to disseminate information and specialised translated materials through an e-platform and to consolidate links between hydrogen safety and responder communities.
